Desert Flower...

Here is a picture Kate and I made in Religion. It is the story of Waris Deeri, this is her story:

1. When she was a youing girl she was "cut" or genitile mutilation took place to her as a part of a Muslim  tradition in her tribe.
2. Later a marraige to a much older man was arranged so she ran away with the help of her mother.
3. Her aunt helped get her to London where she lived with another aunt who treated her as a maid. Later there was a war in Somalia so her aunt left her in London. There she made friends.
4. She worked in a Fast Food restaurant where a famous fashion photographer spotted her and gave her his card.
5. She got her picture taken and soon became a famous top model. Then she spoke in the UN on behalf of all females who were mutilated.
6. Later she got married and is famous for her modelling and as a spokesperson.

I really enjoyed watching this movie and listening to her story as this was the first time I had heard of what goes on in these muslim countries. I also felt proud and happy for Waris as she was so brave to do what she did and I think that she is a brilliant role model for all women. Not only those who live in the underdeveloped world but also to everyone who feel they have few oppurtunities or think that it is impossible to acheive their dreams. That is why I admire her and enjoyed watching her life story.
